New Power Rangers Netflix Show Canceled After Two Years of Development

After two years in development, the new Power Rangers show on Netflix has been canceled.

The franchise, which debuted in 1993 with the TV show *Mighty Morphin Power Rangers*, has grown into one of the most beloved and successful in popular culture. It consists of 30 seasons of television spread across 22 themed shows, three feature films, and a TV special. *Power Rangers Cosmic Fury* from 2023 was intended to be the final entry within the existing canon, with a reboot season scheduled for release in 2025.

However, it appears that this will no longer be the case, as the newest Power Rangers series being developed by Netflix has now been canceled. According to TVLine, the live-action show will not move forward with the streaming giant despite the involvement of Daisy Jones. Hasbro Entertainment, the owner of the Power Rangers franchise, will be seeking a new creative partner to collaborate with.

A successful franchise like Power Rangers will likely not stay off the air for long, but reinventing and rebooting the existing canon comes with risks. Over the past 30 years, the various Power Rangers shows have varied in quality and popularity, and plans for a reboot would undoubtedly attempt to recapture the unique and quirky appeal that made it so popular with children while also refreshing and updating it for a new generation. Who is best positioned to facilitate this remains to be seen, but there will likely be no shortage of interested parties.

It is also unclear whether Klein or Entwistle will remain involved with the project. The latter joined the franchise in 2020 to oversee the development of films and TV shows within the Power Rangers universe, so it seems likely he will remain involved. This will depend on scheduling conflicts, as Entwistle’s upcoming *Karate Kid* sequel is expected to release in 2025. Meanwhile, Klein signed a two-year contract with eOne Entertainment in 2022, the company overseeing the live-action Power Rangers projects.

The cancellation of development with Netflix will delay plans for a new Power Rangers series, but Hasbro and eOne Entertainment will do everything they can to get the show back on the air as soon as possible. This means a new deal will need to be struck, and the perfect team for a Power Rangers reboot will need to be assembled.

There is also still talk of a planned fourth film that is expected to involve Entwistle, but it is likely that the first priority will be to reboot the show. Hasbro is now seeking a new development partner.
